TIGRS™ Rating Specification and TIGRS Rating Box™ Specification
Categories
There are four major categories that are rated. The following is a list of the categories:
- Sex - Anything of a sexual nature
- Violence - Anything of a violent nature
- Drug/Alcohol - Anything regarding substance abuse
- Themes - Anything that might be deemed offensive and doesn't fit into the above categories, such as
profanity and obscene humor
Descriptions
Among the four major categories are several categorical descriptions to further
quantify the potentially offensive material.

TIGRS Rating Box™
The TIGRS Rating Box™ is the fundamental element that ties together the
category ratings and descriptions into a readable and attractive method of communication
about the product. There are some restrictions to keep the format consistent and
readable across various deployments of the Box by multiple publishers. Following
is a list of restrictions:
- If the Box shall be used for on-line purposes, then clicking on the box must take the
viewer to either
- http://www.tigrs.org/
- The uniquely generated TIGRS™ rating page for the rating found on the TIGRS Rating Box™ that has been clicked.
- The design of the Box shall not be altered in any way other than its intended use. These restrictions include
- Resizing without keeping the aspect ratio.
- Coloring or inverting the colors.
- Rearranging the categories.
- Moving, resizing, omitting, altering, or adding to any visible element with the exception of the descriptions box which may only be moved to fit descriptors.
- The descriptions must appear on the box exactly as the short, bold descriptions on this page reads. (ex. the "Alcohol Reference" portion of "Alcohol Reference - References to or images of alcoholic beverages")
- The descriptions must appear in the same order as the descriptions on this page.
- Intentionally mis-representing the product for which the Box has been constructed is in violation of the usage policy.
- You are limited to the above categories and descriptions. Creating new categories or descriptions is in violation of the usage policy.
If the above specifications are not stricly adhered to, you are in violation of the usage
policy and are thus in violation of copyright and trademark laws as you do not have
permission to use the TIGRS Rating Box™ in any other method than above described.
Additionally, we reserve the right to forbid anyone from using the TIGRS™ and affiliated trademarks
for any reason and at any time.
